Police said decorative stones were removed from the site, just southwest of the water treatment plant, and believed to have been thrown into the river.

The Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland launched the Flag Plaza in 2004 as a tribute to emergency responders on both sides of the border.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
