United Way campaign update

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way Campaign continues to trail last year's pace.

Executive Director Dave Brown said week seven of the fundraising effort brought in just $44,000 for a total of $750,000, or 39.5 per cent of the $1.9 million target.

Brown said the growth of the campaign has slowed a little bit.

"But it typically does the end of October beginning of November," said Brown. "That's when we are waiting for the big campaigns to wrap up while many of the newer campaigns are just now kicking off. In fact, we have a number of campaigns that are kicking off in the coming week or two, direct mail is still coming in strong as is online donations. We still have seven more weeks to go so we're still hopeful."

He said they're hoping some new fundraisers and events will help give them the push they need as they enter the second half of the campaign.

"We're really happy to partner with the Dante Club and, thanks to our sponsor Libro Credit Union, we're having a Shepherd's Pie and Lasagna Frozen Take-Out Dinner on November 20, but you can call anytime to purchase your meals."

Further details about the event are posted on the United Way's website.

Brown said so far 1,600 donors have supported this year's campaign.

He anticipates they'll need about 4,200 donors by the end of the year to reach their target.

The United Way helps fund 18 local agencies providing 36 programs and services to the community.
