UPDATE: Firefighters called to separate fires on same street

Sarnia Fire and Rescue was called to two separate structure fires on the same street in the city's south end early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to townhouse fires on Lanark Court near Somerset Crescent before 4:30 a.m.  -- clouds of smoke could be seen billowing into the air in the area.

Public Education Officer Mike Otis said the two structures were not close to each other.

"They were on totally different ends of the street -- so one's facing one direction and one's facing another, so quite a distance apart."

Otis said one firefighter sustained minor lower body injuries and was taken to hospital.

Sarnia fire, the fire marshal's office and city police detectives are investigating what caused the fires. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

Sarnia fire has now responded to four structure fires in a span of just over 24 hours.
