Sarnia mayor concerned about U.S. election uncertainty

Sarnia's mayor is concerned about the potential for a protracted, destabilized post-election period in the U.S.

President Donald Trump said he'll be going to the supreme court and he wants all voting to stop.

Mike Bradley told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Wednesday morning the uncertainty is not good for Canada.

"I think President Trump has been setting the stage for weeks and months that this was a false election, an illegal election, and by no coincidence, he's saying it's going to end up at the Supreme Court, which he just had a key Republican appointed to," said Bradley. "So I think from a Canadian perspective, the way I'm looking at this, this is not good. America's probably going to be destabilized probably for weeks and perhaps months while they try to sort this out."

Bradley said Canada is America's biggest trading partner and if Trump holds on to the presidency this country is going to have take a much tougher stand.

He cautions though, that when it comes to trade, democrats aren't that much different than republicans.

"I think Biden would be a more civilized, decent individual as it relates to dealing with issues and we saw that through the Obama regime, however, they're just as protective. One of the first things that Biden has promised to cut is the Keystone Pipeline, which is very important to the west of this country. We shouldn't be naïve about that 'America First,' whether it be a democrat or republican, I just think we'd see more respect between these two countries if Biden is elected."

Bradley said the handling of the pandemic in the U.S. is key to future discussions about the reopening of the border.
