City's first legal pot store has local flavour

Sarnia's first legal cannabis store officially opened for business Monday afternoon.

Bluewater Joint celebrated the grand opening of its family-owned and operated shop at 940 Murphy Road.

Owner Jess Plata said they're only offering online ordering with curbside pick-up initially, as the province remains under a stay-at-home order.

She said customers will notice a laid-back atmosphere and some unique artwork once they're allowed to enter the store.

"We have an artist who painted a mural dedicated to Sarnia," said Plata. "We've got the Blue Water Bridge, and the old Colborne hotel which my grandparents actually used to own and operate themselves. We have an astronaut on there that you can get a selfie with, and we've got a nice painting of 'Weed Wing' with a halo so you can be a weed angel and tag yourself on it."

Plata said products range from cannabis flower to edibles, and CBD oils.

You can visit www.bluewaterjoint.ca for more information or to place an order.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission website said applications for 12 other cannabis stores in Sarnia remain "in progress" and have not yet been given clearance to open.

Lambton county's first store, The Bend Cannabis Company, opened on Main Street in Grand Bend a couple of weeks ago.
