A Windsor man faces numerous charges after Sarnia police pursued a vehicle that recklessly fled a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.
Police said at about 3:45 a.m. a vehicle pulled into a driveway in the 300 block of Confederation Street with a cruiser with its emergency lights activated behind it. The vehicle reversed nearly striking the cruiser and then sped over the front lawn and took off westbound on Confederation.
Police said the vehicle made an abrupt right-hand turn northbound onto Vidal Street forcing another police cruiser to maneuver to avoid a collision. Officers found the vehicle abandoned, with the doors open, in the area of Vidal and Wellington streets, and found a quantity of drugs on the floor.
Distinctive shoe prints in the snow were followed and a suspect was found hiding in the side yard of a home in the 200 block of Christina Street South.
Police said they seized 33 grams of cocaine, 13 opioid Tec tablets, four grams of fentanyl and 2.5 grams of methamphetamine with a total street value of $5,680.
Eric Anthony Burgstaler, 31, of Windsor, was in custody awaiting a bail hearing on charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle and operation of a vehicle while prohibited under the criminal code.
