Sarnia protesters charged for allegedly violating COVID orders

Charges have been laid against protesters who have gathered in Sarnia for months to demonstrate against pandemic restrictions.

Sarnia's Primary Control Group was told Tuesday afternoon that city bylaw enforcement recently issued multiple charges under the Reopening Ontario Act.

"The charges are linked to individuals who attended multiple outdoor organized public events in contravention of the gathering limits," said Manager of Bylaw Enforcement Services Adam MacDonald in a statement.

The charges came in response to several complaints about a group violating the province's COVID-19 restrictions.

"Bylaw enforcement, together with Sarnia Police Services, following the provincial directive are taking serious any public complaints," the statement read.

The charges were laid in connection with a gathering January 30 at the Walmart shopping plaza.
