Friday's blustery, cold end to winter will give way to a bright, sunny start to spring with above seasonal temperatures.
Spring officially arrives at 5:37 a.m. Saturday, March 20.
Environment Canada meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said we can expect a very pleasant first weekend of the new season.
"We're looking at a ridge of high pressure which is going to give clear, sunny skies and the temperatures are going to be in the low teens for most of the weekend."
Flisfeder said long term models are showing above seasonal temperatures for the most part through spring.
"Temperatures are going to be warmer than normal but, of course, you have to pay attention to what the normal is from week to week," he said. "This first week of spring, temperatures typically would be around 6 C, and as we move further into the spring those would go up accordingly. But, the models are all showing above seasonal throughout the spring."
Flisfeder said precipitation amounts are still unclear for March due to a lot of inconsistencies from model to model, but he expects periods of showers throughout the month.
Environment Canada's Friday forecast called for a high of 11 C, 52 F, Saturday, and near 16 C, 61 F, Sunday.
