Sarnia-Lambton victims' advocate recognized by province

A Sarnia woman is being honoured for her years of advocating for victims of crime.

Georgette Parsons has been selected as a recipient of the Attorney General's Victim Services Award of Distinction for 2020-2021.

Parsons, the longtime board chair of Sarnia-Lambton's Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre who retired last fall, told Blackburn News she was surprised when she received the message.

"When I received the email, I was utterly shocked, because I mean, it's provincial," said Parsons. "To have been selected, I mean, holy moly! I was just very moved."

Parsons said she's been invited to an awards ceremony, held virtually via ZOOM, April 27.
