Damage pegged at $20K in Petrolia basement fire

Damage is estimated at $20,000 in a fire Monday morning in Petrolia.

Fire Chief Jay Arns said the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department responded to a call of smoke inside a home on Princess Street at around 5:45 a.m.

He said crews arrived to find a working fire in the basement and quickly knocked down the blaze, containing it to the room of origin.

Arns said the cause of the fire has been determined to be careless use of smoking materials.

No injuries are reported.
