Traffic stop leads to trafficking charges against Sarnia man

Sarnia police seized over $6,400 worth of drugs and cash following a traffic stop Tuesday morning.

At around 11:30 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Murphy Road near Confederation Street because of concerns with its insurance and validation status.

Police said the driver, a 32-year-old Sarnia man, was prohibited from driving and was taken into custody.

During a search of the suspect, police allegedly located 28.2 grams of cocaine, 8.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and around $2,160 in currency, with a total street value of $6,414.

Richard Paul Meloche is charged with two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, five counts of failing to comply with a release order, and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Meloche was in custody pending a bail hearing.
