Sarnia building totals surpass 2020

Sarnia's construction activity for the first six months of 2021 has nearly tripled in terms of dollar value, and already surpassed last year's pace.

City hall issued 62 building permits in June, totalling over $12.4 million, bringing the six-month total to $88.4 million compared to $26.4 million last year. The six month total is also $7.7 million more than all of 2020.

The largest permit was for $1.5 million for renovations and upgrades at St. Michael Catholic School in Bright's Grove.

There were seven permits in June for single family homes, down from 10 in June 2020.

To date, 64 permits have been issued for single family dwellings, just one shy of last year's total.
