Health unit warns of Hepatitis A found in frozen mango products

Sarnia-Lambton's health unit says anyone six months of age and over who was exposed to recalled frozen mango products, should get a Hepatitis A shot.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning for several products last week due to possible Hepatitis A contamination.

The recalled products are:

- Two-kilogram bags of Nature’s Touch frozen mangoes with a best before date of November 9, 2022;

- 600-gram packages of Compliments Mango Mania with best before dates of November 10, 2022 and December 18, 2022;

- 600-gram packages of Irresistibles Mango Chunks, with a best before date of November 10, 2022; and,

- 600-gram packages of President’s Choice Mango Chunks with best before dates of November 6, 2022 and November 10, 2022.

In a release Thursday morning, Lambton Public Health said it "strongly recommends that anyone six months of age and over who was exposed to the recalled products in the past 14 days receive a Hepatitis A vaccine."  Those individuals are also advised to contact the health unit at 519-383-8331.

The release said symptoms of Hepatitis A usually develop about four weeks after exposure to the virus, although this period can range from 15 to 50 days.  Symptoms can include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal discomfort, malaise, and jaundice.

The health unit said individuals who have received a complete series of Hepatitis A or Hepatitis A/B (Twinrix) vaccine or who have received a single dose of Hepatitis A vaccine in the past 6 months or have previously had a Hepatitis A infection, do not require further vaccine for this exposure.
