Golf tournament aims to support Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre

A local group is hoping to enjoy some time on the green while supporting a good cause.

The first annual Guardian Angels Golf Tournament to support the Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre Sarnia Lambton will be held this month.

Robert (Bob) Maniuk said his brother, who's the chairperson of their committee, wanted to start a fundraising golf tournament to support children. Maniuk said their sisters then suggested helping children who have been rescued from human trafficking, and research led them to the Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre.

"It's an opportunity to have a fun day and know that the proceeds are going to a worthy cause," said Maniuk.

The fundraiser will be held at the Kingswell Glen Golf Club in Petrolia on August 14 at 10 a.m. It will cost $360 for a team of four and the day will include18 holes, a cart, and a barbeque lunch. Registration and e-transfers must be sent by Saturday, August 7 to guardianangelslambton@gmail.com.

"If they send an e-transfer to the email with their information as far as a team name, that's how they can register," said Maniuk. "Plus anybody who wants to make a donation can do it through e-transfer."

Receipts will be provided for donations of $100 or more, as stated on the group's Facebook page.

Maniuk said they would like to have 18 teams participating in the tournament but recognize that this is only their first year holding the fundraiser.

COVID-19 health and safety measures will be observed.
