United Way black and white game returns after a year hiatus

The Sarnia Sting will welcome up to 1,000 fans to Progressive Auto Sales Arena at 6 p.m. on Thursday for the annual Black and White game.

The matchup, in support of the United Way, typically raises over $2,000 each year but was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Executive Director Dave Brown is excited for the game.

"We haven't seen a Sarnia Sting hockey game for over 18 months, so we're anticipating a great crowd on Thursday night," said Brown. "We're grateful to the Sting for everything that they do and, of course, the Sarnia Sting fans that come out to support the United Way and the hockey club this year."

Tickets for the contest are $5 and can be purchased at the Sarnia Sting box office.

Meanwhile, the United Way's first 50/50 draw of the year is underway, and the winning ticket will be picked on September 15 in conjunction with the start of the 2021 campaign.

This year's fundraising goal is $1.75 million.
