Former Legionnaires star shot in the line of duty

A former Sarnia Legionnaires hockey star, and current Sault St. Marie police officer, is recovering in hospital after being shot in the line of duty.

According to www.sootoday.com, 26-year-old Cst. Ryan Vendramin was seriously injured after being shot on Sunday morning. He is said to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The Special Investigations Unit is now looking into the incident that saw a 19-year-old man shot and killed by police.

Vendramin was sworn in as a member of Sault St. Marie Police Service in December 2020.

He spent three seasons in a Legionnaires uniform, from 2013 to 2016, putting up 82 goals and adding 104 assists in 125 games.

He also put up two points in 20 games with the OHL's Sarnia Sting.

Vendramin was named American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 national player of the year in 2020 as a member of the Sault College Cougars.
