County vaccine compliance at 90 per cent as deadline passes

Over 1,000 employees with the County of Lambton have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Corporate Services General Manager Stephane Thiffeault says 90 per cent of staff have provided proof of two doses of vaccine.

In an e-mail to Sarnia News Today, he said it's expected that number will continue to go up this week as several employees have indicated they're in the process of becoming fully vaccinated for the virus.

"Those who have not confirmed that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 will be required to undergo weekly testing, save and except for our unvaccinated LTC (long-term care) employees who are currently subject to daily testing, and who will have to be vaccinated by November 15 as required by provincial directives applicable to long-term care home operators," said Thiffeault.

On September 15, the County of Lambton announced that as of October 22, county employees and volunteers would have to provide proof of double vaccination or be subject to weekly rapid antigen testing.

Thiffeault said around 1,200 workers are impacted by the policy, and no staff members have yet been let go on account of their vaccination status.

Staff at Bluewater Health have until October 31 to be fully vaccinated to work at the hospital.
