Sarnia council has dismissed a motion to eliminate the transit levy in 2022.
Councillor Terry Burrell made the motion after council supported a staff recommendation to maintain the status quo and not approve a requested transit levy exemption at its last meeting.
Property owners in the Twin Lakes area, north of Michigan Avenue and just east of Murphy Road, paying the levy for the first time this year, argued nearby bus stops were over 450 meters away.

The idea of adding a dog-friendly area to a Sarnia beach has surfaced again.
Council has asked staff to consult the community on the idea again.
Councillor Bill Dennis proposed the idea in the summer of 2019, and while a one year pilot was approved in March, 2020, the idea was later shelved due to COVID-19.
In addition to public consultation, staff have been asked to identify a location and options for additional off-leash dog parks to meet growing demand.
A report is expected to return to council for consideration December 13.

Sarnia council has supported Mayor Mike Bradley's call for Ottawa to remove its requirement for all travellers to provide COVID-19 test results to enter the country at land borders.
Starting November 8, fully vaccinated Canadians can enter the United States for nonessential reasons, and while no test is required to travel stateside, individuals must provide a negative molecular test result to re enter Canada.
City staff will send a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other officials.
Canada reopened its border to American travellers on August 9.
