United Way nearing pivotal point in campaign

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is nearing the 50 per cent mark.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've raised $870,000 toward the $1.75 million target.

He said Imperial's corporate gift gave them a big push to kick off week nine of the campaign.

"We are really focusing on our direct mail, and people who have responded through the mail are actually up a fair bit over last year's pace," said Brown.

He said despite being at 49 per cent of the annual fundraising effort, they're still a little behind where they were hoping to be.

"We are still monitoring quite closely and we're still quite concerned," he said. "The next seven weeks will go by quite quickly before the Christmas period."

Brown said they're hoping the 2nd annual Frozen Dinner Take Out fundraiser with the Dante Club and Libro Credit Union, will help get them even closer to their target

"We encourage everyone to visit our website www.theunitedway.on.ca to order their meals," he said.

The pick up date is set for November 30.

The United Way helps fund 20 local agencies providing 40 programs and services.
