Local conservation authorities are advising that strong winds and high waves in the forecast may cause flooding and erosion problems along the Lake Huron shoreline.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says winds are expected to shift westerly Monday afternoon, strengthening to 55 kilometres per hour, with peak gusts topping 80 km/hr.
This is expected to produce waves of three to four metres, peaking Monday evening, before dissipating through the day Tuesday.
The Authority said winds will shift northwest and remain strong into Tuesday morning.
Continued erosion of the lakeshore bluff and beach areas is expected. Combined with saturated ground conditions, there will be a heightened risk of bluff failures.
We're reminded to stay well back from breaking waves and to avoid top-of-bluff areas during and after the storm, in case there has been any movement of the lake bank.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch.
The authority said gauges across its watershed are reporting between 15 mm and 20 mm of rain since Sunday afternoon.
Some natural floodplain areas, parks and farmland were already under water.
Stanley Line between Kimball Road and Waubuno Road, Pretty Road north of McCallum Line and Fairweather Road between Oil Springs Line and Aberfeldy Line may become impacted.
