Pair face arson charges in Finch Drive explosion

Sarnia police say the production of illicit cannabis is to blame for an explosion at 275 Finch Drive.

The explosion happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. December 12, forcing the evacuation of all 81 units in the building.

Matthew Courtenay Dekker, 47, and Kimberley Kristen Denomme, 38, both of Sarnia, are each charged with arson endangering life, arson causing property damage, alter cannabis using organic solvent and possession for the use and production or distribution of illicit cannabis.

Denomme faces an additional charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. She was released pending a future court date.

Dekker remains in hospital due to injuries sustained from the explosion and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Over 300 tenants were forced out of their apartments because of the blast, however, they were able to return home the following evening.
