A multi-day snow event could be the opportunity the Village of Point Edward has been waiting for to host its first annual snow creation challenge.
The village has launched a contest for businesses and residents to create a snow sculpture on their own property for a chance to win prizes.
"Whatever your imagination can come up with," said Special Projects and Health & Safety Co-ordinator Shelley Archer. "We're just encouraging people to get out and get some fresh air, [and] have some fun."
Archer said the idea was brought forward by a business owner/ resident who thought it would help boost community spirit.
Since the challenge is weather dependent, a start date will be announced based on the forecast.
Sarnia-Lambton is under a winter storm warning as a blast of winter weather is expected this week.
Archer said they also want to make sure there's enough packing snow before the challenge officially begins. Once the challenge starts, individuals or teams will have 48 hours to complete their snow creation.
"We are going to send out a notice to everyone that has notified us that they want to participate and we'll let them know that they can start their creation," she said.
Archer said so far, several participants have added their name to the list to be judged by contacting village staff. The sculptures will be judged by three residents.
First, second, and third prizes will be handed out, which will also support local businesses.
"They'll come into the office here and we will give them a coupon to whatever village business or service that they wish to spend their money [at]."
Winners will be announced on the village's Facebook page.
