New COVID deaths continue to climb in SL

There has been another local COVID-19 death.

In its daily update Friday, Lambton Public Health reported the death toll had risen to 111 -- an individual in their 60s was the latest fatality.  There have been 28 COVID-related deaths reported locally in 2022.

The health unit reported 69 new lab confirmed cases  Friday, as well as 65 resolved cases, increasing the number of known active infections to 291.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, there have been 9,031 confirmed cases locally and 8,629 recoveries.

The number of active outbreaks is down to five. An outbreak declared at the Sarnia Jail on January 8 has ended.

Bluewater Health has 26 COVID-positive patients in hospital, down from 28 on Thursday, three in the ICU.

Of the 26 patients, the hospital's website said 18 are vaccinated, and eight are either partially vaccinated or have had no vaccine.
