Mike Bradley says molecular testing to re-enter Canada, is no longer necessary.
The Sarnia mayor is presenting a notice of motion on Monday, requesting that city council endorse the resolution passed by Fort Erie.
It requests the federal government discontinue the requirement for pre-arrival testing at land ports of entry along the Canada-U.S. border.
He said because of vaccines, including third doses, and the nature of the latest strain of COVID-19, molecular testing at the border no longer serves a purpose.
"At one point in time it had its value but, at this point in time we believe it no longer has any value to protecting Canadians," said Bradley.
"I hear the stories daily about the frustrations of crossing, the tests don't come back, the cost, and all of those things. There are a number of people who travel back and forth, or want to, to see loved ones."
Sarnia City Council will meet virtually at 10 a.m. Monday.
