Missing cell phone results in robbery charges

Two Sarnia residents are facing robbery and assault charges following an incident at an apartment in the area of Queen Street.

A 31-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man reportedly went to the victim's residence Thursday afternoon. Police said all three people know each other.

However, when the two suspects started to leave, the victim noticed his cell phone was missing from where it was last placed.

Once confronted, the male suspect allegedly “sucker punched” the victim "and began to wrestle him to the ground." At which point, the female suspect allegedly began to hit the victim with a baseball bat.

Both suspects then ran away from the scene.

Sarnia police said the victim did not sustain any significant injuries.

Officers located the two suspects in the area. They're each charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of robbery with theft.

The accused remain in custody pending bail hearings.
