Team effort helps Sting down Spits 6-2

Thirteen Sting skaters recorded a point in Sarnia's 6-2 win in Windsor Sunday night.

The Spitfires opened the scoring at 8:33 of the first period when Will Cuylle found the back of the net on the power play.  Windsor outshot Sarnia 10-5 and led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The two sides traded goals midway through the second period -- Sting forward Ben Lalkin scored his second of the season at 9:43 and Cuylle added another power play goal for Windsor at 12:56.

Sarnia responded with two late goals at 17:20 and 19:05, off the sticks of Angus MacDonell and Nolan DeGurse respectively, making it 3-2 for the road team heading into the final frame.

Sarnia's Max Namestnikov scored at 6:05 of the third period to make it 4-2.  Nolan Burke would increase the Sting's lead to three with his team-leading 23rd goal of the season at 7:31.  Theo Hill added an empty-netter for Sarnia at 17:25, capping-off the 6-2 win.

Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced and was named the first star of the game.  No Sarnia skaters recorded more than a point and just five Sting were held off the scoresheet.

Sarnia is back in action Wednesday night when the club hosts Guelph on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM).
