Applications sought through Petrolia's Green Leader program

The Town of Petrolia and Waste Management are now accepting applications under the Green Leader Program.

They're looking to fund projects that beautify the town and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Director of Community Services and Facilities Dave Menzies said it's been a successful program since launching in 2020.

"We've been able to gift out projects of trees, garden growing, resources for schools, and new playground equipment that will use recycled tires. The community itself has latched onto this grant opportunity and applications come in fast."

Each applicant can request up to $15,000 at one time, non-repayable funding.

In 2021, the Petrolia Discovery Foundation was granted $10,000 to replace three tanks in a bermed area in the North Battery.

The Petrolia and Area Kiwanis Club was given $5,000 towards a project that will provide preschool and school-aged programs with the necessary materials and tools needed to create hands-on learning opportunities about gardening and composting.

Applications are due by March 30, with the winners being announced on Earth Day, April 22.
