A $2.2 million investment from the Ontario government will help Lambton College provide a modern and safe learning environment, both virtually and on campus.
The money will fund a variety of equipment for the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training and Fire Science Technology programs at the Fire and Public Safety Centre of Excellence.
It will also be used to purchase technology, physical and electrical infrastructure, and support a variety of projects, including HVAC upgrades and lighting improvements.
Some specifics include photography equipment for the business programs, treadmills for the sports and recreation program, and state of the art diabetic simulation monitors for the health students.
A new boiler will be installed on the south portion of the campus, and there's also an investment in new analytical chemistry equipment.
Lambton College President and CEO Rob Kardas is pleased.
"At Lambton College, we pride ourselves on the quality of education we provide to our students, including the experiential learning we’re able to offer with our state of practice facilities and equipment," said Kardas. "This funding will help us continue to build upon our excellent career-focused programs and support us in preparing our graduates to make an impact in our region of innovation. We truly appreciate this investment in our college, students and community."
Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey also commented on the announcement.
"This support will ensure students at Lambton College have access to modern instructional equipment to meet business and industry standards, increase student access to micro-credentials and enhance the overall student experience," said Bailey. "By investing in postsecondary infrastructure, we are not only supporting our local economy, but ensuring students get the skills needed for the in-demand jobs of today and tomorrow."
The funding is part of the province's $583 million investment over three years to help institutions modernize classrooms by upgrading technology, carrying out critical repairs, improving their environmental sustainability and supporting virtual learning projects that increase access to postsecondary education for students.
