Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu has been appointed to the Conservative Shadow Cabinet.
Gladu was named associate shadow minister for International Trade and Supply Chains. She will work alongside Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback, who was named shadow minister for International Trade and Supply Chain Resilience in November 2021.
Gladu said she has already been in contact with Hoback and is excited about this new role.
"I've known [Hoback] and worked with him well on issues like Line 5 and other things," Gladu said. "I think the supply chain is going to be critical in the coming days, we've been studying it -- at the Transport Committee we have a study going on -- and there's a lot to do in terms of trade when you think about Canada and the vulnerable position we're in."
Gladu was appointed to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities in late 2021.
The local MP said disruptions in the supply chain have been felt most recently by blockades but also with damaged infrastructure in other parts of the country.
"Ensuring that we protect the supply chain is going to be key because it matters to inflation," said Gladu. "Then on the trade side, there's so much we could do to improve our trade relationship with the U.S."
Conservative Interim Leader Candice Bergen announced a few other changes to the party's shadow cabinet on Monday, including Alberta MP Shannon Stubbs taking over for Lambton Kent Middlesex MP Lianne Rood as Shadow Minister for Rural Economic Development and Rural Broadband Strategy. Bergen was selected as the new interim leader earlier this month.
