Coldest Night of the Year comes as warm welcome for local organizations

Projects that seek to provide shelter are getting a big financial boost thanks to donations made through the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraiser.

CNOY is an annual initiative that supports charities and organizations, which in turn help the community.

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton and Sarnia's River City Vineyard have both met their fundraising goals ahead of Saturday's walk.

HGTV personality Damon Bennett and his wife Chana joined Habitat for Humanity for this year's event.

The initial goal was to raise $25,000 for the organization's build program. After reaching its goal in early February, it was increased to $40,000. As of Friday afternoon, over $54,000 was raised.

As of Friday, Sarnia River City (hosted by River City Vineyard) raised over $40,000.

The local church is raising money to help with the expansion of its homeless shelter.

The CNOY walks will begin Saturday evening, with check-in starting at 4 p.m.
