Lambton County Science Fair organizers are planning to host an in-person event this April.
Spokesman Peter Smith said students have missed out on that experience now for two years.
"In 2020 it got cancelled, last year we did a virtual event, but with a much reduced number of student projects," said Smith. "We really want to get this thing back into the in-person event, which is much more fun."
Smith said the in-person option is more interactive and the students enjoy it more because their families can come too.
"Of course, you know, at this point in time there's uncertainty. So, what we've done is, we are planning for this to be an in-person event, but in the event that we can't do that, we will have to fall back on a virtual event, but it's full steam ahead at the moment."
Smith is encouraging students to start thinking about their projects now.
"We need to have the projects registered by the 25th of March, so that we know how many we have to deal with."
The science fair is open to students in grade three to grade 12.
"In the senior grades, all of those projects are eligible to go forward to the Canada-wide science fair. That is going to be a virtual event again this year because they had to start planning a long time ago."
Smith said three or four of the best local projects will be entered in the national competition.
"We won't send them in if they're not really top quality. In the past we've come out with some really good awards; golds, platinum's, and silvers. All of the students that get involved in that, really enjoy that part of it."
