Youth crashes parents' vehicle into fence

Lambton OPP say a youth took their parents' vehicle and crashed into a fence on Michigan Avenue in the early morning hours of March 11.

Police were contacted about an abandoned vehicle at around 5:15 a.m. and said it sustained significant damage.

The registered owner was contacted and was unaware the vehicle was missing from the residence and the owner's teenage child was also not home.

Officers were able to determine that the young person had taken the vehicle and was responsible for the collision.

The suspect, from Petrolia, has been charged with the following:

- Take vehicle without consent - Careless Driving - Fail to remain - G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver - G1 licence holder - drive at unlawful hour

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on a later date.
