The first Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day of the year will be held on Saturday.
Sarnia-Lambton residents can drop off hazardous household materials at Clean Harbors Canada, located at 4090 Telfer Rd. in St. Clair Township, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The disposal of potentially dangerous waste in the regular trash can lead to environmental problems or result in a sanitation worker getting injured. Whereas, the drop-off disposal of household hazardous waste comes at no cost for residents.
Household hazardous materials include batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, bleach, paints, and propane cylinders. A full list of what's accepted and what's not can be found by clicking here.
Residents are asked to place drop-off materials into a disposable container (such as a cardboard box) and place it at the back of a vehicle to allow for social distancing. Due to COVID-19 concerns, residents are also asked to remain in their vehicle while staff remove the material, as specified on the county's website.
The next Household Hazardous Waste Day is on April 30. Additional collection days will take place on the last Saturdays of May, June, September, and October.
