A Sarnia-based slo-pitch team will be competing at the national championship in Whitehorse at the end of July, and is looking to raise money to get there.
The Sarnia Hitmen, who play in the Bluewater Men's Slo-Pitch League, qualified by winning the 2021 provincials in Niagara Falls, with a record of 7-1.
Assistant Coach Kyle Blair is confident the team can be competitive.
"We'll definitely be able to keep our weight with nationals," said Blair. "It's definitely going to be a competition. We've never really been able to experience this before so we don't know quite what we're going into but we're going in with our heads held high and looking to do really strong and come out well."
Blair said they're looking for businesses to potentially sponsor them. He said the cost of heading to nationals will be around $3,000 per person but expects to pay some out of pocket.
He said they've started a Krispy Kreme donut fundraiser and will be holding a ball tournament in June.
