Ahead of the provincial election in June, the Ford Tories continue to highlight investments made to increase staffing at long term care homes in southwestern Ontario.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton announced Thursday that $767,472 has been directed to the North Lambton Lodge in Forest.
Lambton County Long Term Care Division General Manager Jane Joris said the funding was expected and announced in November of last year.
"We've increased staffing in a number of areas (at the lodge), including increasing the number of PSWs (personal support workers), recreation staff, and registered staff as well," Joris said. "It's been a big benefit. I think we're at about 3.20 hours of care right now and that's close to the provincial average that we're expected to meet."
She said before increasing staff hours, residents received an average of three hours of care at the lodge.
"We were hoping for a little bit of an increase on April 1. We won't be increasing our staffing this year, but will be able to maintain what we put into place in November."
McNaughton also announced Thursday that the Watford Quality Care Centre in Watford will receive $444,792.
Funding for eight other Sarnia-Lambton facilities was announced over March Break.
