Over $20K raised to help Ukrainian refugees

An event celebrating Ukrainian culture and food raised over $20,000 over the weekend.

The Pysanky and Perogy Fundraiser, collecting money to benefit Ukraine refugees coming to Lambton County, raised over $21,000.

In a social media post, Organizer Dr. Cassandra Taylor said 240 people signed up for the egg decorating classes at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church, and about 3,000 perogies were sold.

"What these people have been through is unimaginable, and I am proud to be a part of a community that will welcome them into their arms and own families," said Taylor. "We will be able to help them get on their feet and start a new life here in Canada."

The Rosedale Avenue church is still collecting money to help with humanitarian efforts.
