Inn raffle raising funds for local food bank, shelter

The Inn of the Good Shepherd's Local Shopping Spree raffle is back this year, and the non-profit agency is hoping to raise up to $30,000 to help those in need.

A grand prize package, worth $5,000 is up for grabs, along with 25 additional prizes.

Executive Director Myles Vanni said there are 50 local businesses on board, and the prizes are valued at a total of $12,500.

"We're buying the prizes from businesses rather than asking them to donate the prizes," said Vanni. "So many businesses have struggled through the COVID situation, and they're struggling. We just wanted to purchase those prizes to maybe help keep some people employed in those businesses."

Vanni said the proceeds from each ticket will support The Inn of The Good Shepherd, which feeds an average 1,800 people per month and provides a variety of other support services.

"The numbers of people we have in shelter are still heightened," he said. "We still have about three times what we would normally have. Last fall, it was about six times the number of people we would normally have in shelter. These funds will help to kind of meet those needs."

He said they've experienced increased demand during the COVID pandemic.

Raffle tickets are $25 for one, two for $40, or five for $100.

They can be purchased online at www.localshoppingspree.com or in-person from DOG EAT DOG (cash only), Lambton Mall - Customer Service Kiosk (cash only), and The Inn of the Good Shepherd.

The draw takes place on Wednesday, May 11.
