Report to investigate removal of winter overnight parking ban

A request to remove overnight parking restrictions during winter months and only restrict parking when there is a snow event in Sarnia, will be investigated but may not change anything.

Councillor Terry Burrell said while he supports the development of a report, he does not support bylaw changes.

"You can not predict when there's going to be a storm, and how do you enforce it when somebody says, 'oh, I didn't think there was going to be a storm,'" said Burrell. "Having vehicles off the streets is a preemptive thing, and I think it's a wise thing to have."

Burrell said the restrictions are necessary, even though he admits the city has experienced fewer heavy snow storms in recent years.

Staff will report back on the staffing and financial implications of removing the bylaw and implementing new rules at a later date.

The city's seasonal ban on overnight street parking runs from December 1 to March 31 each year.
