The Sarnia Sting clinched a postseason berth on the final day of the OHL's regular season.
The Sting needed a win or an Erie loss on Sunday to hold onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference -- the Otters fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs 10-2 prior to Sarnia's game in London.
The Sting wrapped up their regular season with a 1-0 loss to the Knights in what ended up being a meaningless game for both teams when it came to postseason positioning.
London's Cody Morgan scored the lone goal of the game at 6:43 of the third period, his 30th of the season. Sting goaltender Ben Gaudreau made three saves in the first period before being replaced by Anson Thornton for the second and third -- Thornton turned away 18 of 19 shots. Knights netminder Owen Flores made 31 saves for the shutout and was named the game's first star.
Sarnia finished the season with a record of 27-36-4-1 and 59 points, a point ahead of the Otters. If Sarnia and Erie had finished with the same amount of points, a one-game playoff would have been held to determine the eighth seed.
The Sting will now face off against the top seeded Windsor Spitfires in a best-of-seven first round matchup. Game one of the series goes Thursday night from Windsor -- all of the action can be heard on CHOK (1070 AM/103.9 FM).
