Experts and community members are expected to discuss habitat creation projects along the St. Clair River Area of Concern (AOC) during a virtual information session on Thursday.
The Canadian Remedial Action Plan Implementation Committee, a group tasked with restoring the AOC, is hosting a presentation about fish and wildlife habitat creation and restoration projects that have been done along the river.
St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Manager of Communications Donna Blue said participants will take a virtual tour to see the completed projects.
"We have someone speaking from the conservation authority on Bowen's Creek, we have someone from the Rural Lambton Stewardship Network who will talk about the habitat project that was done at Branton Cundick Park, as well as a gentleman from Walpole Island First Nation who was involved with the marsh restoration of Swan Lake," said Blue.
A biologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada will also talk about wetland health monitoring results.
Thursday's virtual session is the third presentation as part of a program held over the last year. The two previous sessions held in 2021 were about fish and wildlife populations, and drinking water.
"They've gone really well," said Blue. "It was converted to a virtual platform because of the pandemic. Typically, we would hold this in-person once a year -- or at least that's what's been done the last five years -- and a bunch of our experts would come in and give updates."
Blue said this week's virtual session is the last scheduled presentation in regards to the St. Clair River AOC as it was intended to be a three-part program.
The webinar will be held over ZOOM on April 21 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Registration can be done through the Friends of the St. Clair River's website.
