The unveiling of a new municipal building in Watford is adding excitement for things to come in the community.
Residents were invited to tour the new Warwick Township municipal office on Monday. An open house was held in the afternoon, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and a regular council meeting held within the new council chambers.
Warwick Township recently relocated its municipal office to 5280 Nauvoo Rd. in Watford.
"It's such a wonderful addition to our downtown and to our council," said Mayor Jackie Rombouts.
The move has been a few years in the making after plans were unveiled in November 2019. The Watford Investment Group purchased and demolished several buildings on the east side of Nauvoo Road.
"I can still remember the first time I took the picture to post on social media of the old buildings that were along here and it just started a buzz of what was to come and it has been so good for our community," said Rombouts.
The mayor also said the entire process with the developer worked out well and there were no major hurdles to overcome.
Rombouts said the new building helps to bring "new life" into this part of town, which was included in council's strategic plan.
"We never in a million years imagined anything so beautiful as this but it has just been so gratifying to be able to meet and exceed those goals," she said.
Meantime, Monday's unveiling spurred excitement for the arena expansion and new community centre. Rombouts said the facility is expected to open in October.
