Poore seeking election to Petrolia's mayor

Nominations for the October municipal election opened on Monday and already a well-known member of the community has tossed his name into the ring for Petrolia Mayor.

Board Chair of the Petrolia Discovery Foundation, and former Director of Cultural Services for Petrolia Richard Poore filed the necessary paperwork Monday to begin his campaign.

"Over the next several months I need to take a lot of time to really listen to the ratepayers and to the community," said Poore. "I need to find out what some of their burning desires are and what their visions are. I think that's really the role of the mayor and of council, is to really take that shared vision and that listened-to vision and move it forward."

Poore has called the town home for nine years.

"My wife and I love living in Petrolia, and I feel passionate about the overall health of our community," he said. "I look forward to the possibility of giving back and serving as Petrolia's Mayor."

Voters head to the polls on October 24.

It's not yet known whether incumbent Brad Loosley will be seeking re-election.
