The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has received funding to train young environmental professionals.
The authority has received $172,000 from Ontario's Skills Development Program.
Communications Manager Donna Blue said the funding will support three positions.
"The experience they're going to gain from our seasoned biologists, who have been doing this work for decades, will be really helpful in their future employment opportunities," said Blue. They'll learn everything from the background research and work, to monitoring, to in the field work, sampling and identification skills."
She said enhancing those skills and expertise will boost confidence and employability in the environmental field.
"I think it's going to be a really well-rounded experience for them and will look really good on a resume moving forward."
Specifically, she said the budding biologists will be given the opportunity to build important skills while working in the biodiverse watershed.
"We have rare freshwater mussels, the fish population is substantial, turtles and snakes, endangered species and other species at risk that are found only within southwestern Ontario."
Blue said the funding will also support professional development opportunities for the three individuals, including courses and workshops held by other industry leaders.
