Alleged impaired drivers taken off Sarnia roads

A couple of drivers, who allegedly got behind the wheel while impaired, have had their licences suspended for 90 days.

Sarnia police stopped the drivers during separate incidents over the weekend.

On June 10 at around 12:02 a.m., a vehicle was seen swerving across lanes on Confederation Street. An officer stopped the vehicle, however, the driver reportedly stumbled while getting out of the vehicle and almost fell to the ground.

As a result, the driver was arrested and taken to a police station for testing. The 52-year-old Sarnia man allegedly had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system at the time.

He was charged with one count of impaired operation and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

In a separate incident reported on June 11, prior to 2:30 a.m., police stopped a vehicle after avoiding a collision on London Road.

An officer travelling eastbound swerved in order to avoid a crash with a westbound vehicle that had drifted over the lines.

Instead of pulling over for the officer, the driver reportedly stopped in the intersection of London Road and Indian Road. In an attempt to move to the side of the road, police said the driver then struck a curb.

The 25-year-old driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was allegedly found to have twice the legal limit of alcohol.

He was charged with one count of impaired operation and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
