Bluewater Anglers are hoping to lure many people into participating in a free event during Ontario Family Fishing Week.
Family Fun Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, July 9 from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Event Coordinator Lou Dallaire said members are keen to have the event return. The last Family Fun Fishing Day was held in 2019 and saw approximately 150 participants.
Dallaire said it's a good family-friendly activity and gives all residents the opportunity to cast a line, as a fishing licence is not required during Ontario Family Fishing Week.
"It's just an opportunity to introduce people to fishing and to help out with the goby population," he said.
Afterwards, participants will be invited back to the Hatchery for a hot dog lunch.
"That's where we go back and count all of the gobies that have been caught and give out prizes for the most gobies and for the [five] longest fish," he said.
Dallaire said some of the prizes will include gift certificates and rod and reel combo packs.
Bluewater Anglers will have a sign-up booth set up at Centennial Park near the fish fountain, in the parking lot just south of London Road at Front Street.
Participants will receive a bucket to collect gobies and a ticket for a free hot dog and pop during the sign-in process. A limited number of fishing rods and bait will be available.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Further event details and rules are posted to Bluewater Anglers' website.
