Lambton OPP remind motorists to lock their doors

Lambton OPP is once again reminding motorists to lock it or lose it.

Cst. Jamie Bydeley said it's important for drivers to ensure their vehicle doors are locked while unattended.

He said thieves can make off with personal belongings, the vehicle itself or even use the garage door opener to access other cherished items.

"Nothing in particular prompted the messaging [Thursday], it was just posted as an educational reminder," said Bydeley in an email. "We typically see these types of thefts in more towns and cities, where thieves are able to quickly access a lot of vehicles in a short amount of time."

Along with locking the vehicle, Bydeley said it's important for motorists to pocket their keys and to not leave valuables in plain sight.

He also said residents can install motion activated lighting and/or camera systems near where their vehicle is parked at night.
