A new skate park is moving ahead at Sarnia's Tecumseh Park.
Council approved the project during its meeting Monday.
Community Services General Manager Stacey Forfar said public consultations were held and input was gathered online in the spring about design plans for the project.
"We've had 58 responses online, we have engaged youth in that area," said Forfar. "We do not track free outdoor amenities, and what we are proposing is to upgrade what is classically considered a substandard, temporary skateboard park in that park that's been there for years. It's a great opportunity using 75 per cent grant coverage."
Councillor Brian White is happy to see the project moving ahead.
"People in the south end are looking forward to this, why would we not give it to them," said White. "They've known it's been coming and it's extremely well used. I go by that park, I've been to that park for many years with my own kids and that is a very, very, very busy skateboard park being used, including for fundraisers over the years."
About 75 per cent of the project cost, or $450,000 is covered by a Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) grant.
The $610,000 project includes ramps, rails and a bowl.
