UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms possible Monday

Environment Canada was advising of the threat of severe thunderstorms again on Monday afternoon and evening.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Sarnia-Lambton at around 1:30 p.m., and was upgraded to a warning at around 3:40 p.m.

The warning was lifted for Sarnia, Petrolia and Western Lambton County at around 4:17 p.m., and ended for the rest of the county at around 5 p.m.

By 7 p.m. all thunderstorm watches in the area were ended.

The national weather agency said conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

The main hazards were said to be torrential downpours, giving 50 mm or more, and strong wind gusts of up to 90 km/h.

We're being reminded that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.

Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
