Sarnia Legion to hold Remembrance Ceremony for Queen Elizabeth

The Sarnia Legion will honour Queen Elizabeth II with a ceremony Monday.

The State Funeral of Her Majesty will take place on September 19, which is also a national day of mourning in Canada.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 President Les Jones said the public service will be similar to what is held on Remembrance Day.

"Many generations of Canadian veterans, both men and women, have sworn their oath of allegiance to the queen," said Jones. "So, the queen in the military and for veterans has a very special meaning, and that's one of the reasons we decided to hold this ceremony."

The short service will begin at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph in Veterans Park.

"We'll be playing the national anthem, we'll have two minutes of silence and we'll be placing a wreath in honour of her majesty," said Jones. "There will be some prayers, a short speech and we'll break from there. The public is more than welcome to come and take part in the short ceremony."

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96.
