Corunna native and Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson is heading to the 2022 MLB Postseason.
The Phillies clinched their first postseason berth in 11 years with a 3-0 win in Houston Monday night.
Thomson, 59, was named the Phillies interim manager in June following the firing of manager Joe Girardi. Thomson, who served as the Phillies bench coach since 2018, became the first Canadian full-time manager since 1934.
Thomson began coaching minor league ball in 1990 before spending 10 seasons with the New York Yankees between 2008 and 2017. His short professional playing career included four seasons in the Detroit Tigers minor league system between 1985 and 1988.
The Phillies play an afternoon game Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the Wild Card series.
